The genie stealth is the quietest garage door opener opener on earth…. If your bedroom is over the garage, this is a great opener for you…This thing is so quiet it is hard to hear even when you are standing right next to it… It is also a very reliable machine… In the past two years I have serviced mabey one of them. So… I know your gonna ask well why didn’t you give the genie stealth an 8 and not a 10… Well, the problem with the stealth is it is pricey… And that out weighs it’s stealthiness. Secondly genie openers are not the easiest to install… I mean it is not rocket science or anything but it definitely is more difficult than lift master… The programming sequence for genie seems a bit over engineered for my taste. But 8 out of 10 is pretty good anyway.
The Liftmaster 1/2 hp screwdrive, is a remarkable product it seems to cycle doors for long periods of time with out any serious issues, this opener is reliable, inexpensive and is an easy install.[smartads]
lift master 1/2 Hp Screw Drive Operator
I have very seldom even had to service these openers in the past, the one downfall is that the screw mechinism, makes a lot of noise… They have recently (early 2008) changed the screw mechanism and had some problems with it but since then liftmaster has seemed to get all the bugs out of it… I give this one a Rating =7
The Liftmaster 1/2 Horsepower chain drive operator is not the best choice for value but it is somewhat reliable,personally I would not choose this one for my house because a) It is loud and the chain will rattle. b)The gear and sprocket tends to wear out easily. Rating=6
The standard genie screw drive is a motor that is decent its tends to be somewhat reliable but does have a few quirks about it… For one the trolley sheers out with the slightest amount of extra force applied… an unbalanced door,broken spring ect.,. Genies are also not the easiest units to program…but over all it is a run of the mill screw drive that is in expensive and doesn’t give the home owner too many headaches.
Liftmaster 1/3 Horspower chain drive… This is what we at garagedoortoday.com call the hurry up and sell your house opener.. Because If your installing this cheapo you better be selling soon. Although it will make your garage door go up and down for months mabey years if your lucky, it has a tendancy to break down, the gear and sprocket inside is usually the first one to go.

Just becaus most liftmaster products are great does not mean that this one is, If you plan on living in the house for a while don’t bother with this motor at all, the fourty bucks that you save now will be nothing in comparison to what you will spend reparing this little gem…lol
Next on our list the Genie Excelorator, primarily this opener can be found at your local home center and installed by the home owner. The funny thing about this opener is that the Genie company is trying to implant in the homeowners mind that some how It is good to have a garage door that opens rapidly… What with fast food, and fast everything else why not have a fast moving garage door..

Well, first of all your garage door is a huge moving object it weighs 200 plus pounds, there is a lot of momentum developed in your garage door as it is and increasing its velocity only increases that momentum. In my experience this a door moving faster comes of the track easier, breaks more and Is dangerous all around. This garage door opener is also one that has parts that are not standard to the industry, so no one wants to work on it, not to mention, It is not reliable. So what ever you do do not get one of these unless you want problems. There are many other garage door openers that you can buy at your local home center that actually will work properly.
Here we are gonna’ talk about the best openers available so before you run off and buy a genie accelerator from your local home depot check here first. I will a new opener here In every post and I would love to here your opinions on them…….. Note:Ratings will go from 1 to 10
Wayne Dalton I drive

Lets start from worst to greatest, above you see an I drive, the Wayne Dalton I drive has got to bet the biggest piece of [insert profanity here] that I have ever come across. When you are stuck in a low head room situation and there is no room for a standard rail, mabey theres a horizontal beam running across your garage…. This to home owner seems like a good option, wayne dalton is a huge company and I don’t think they are really concerned about any one here but there bottom line…. Let me tell you when I used to install these machines about 6 out of ten were no good… Not only that but they are extreamly dangerous, one time while setting the upper limits on this thing it made the door take off and crash… If someone tryes to sell you an I drive. Politely tell tham no thanks, even if its free… A Safe alternativewould be the liftmaster 3800. more on that later.
The First thing you want to do to your garage interior is Install drywall if you dont have it already… This is not hard and there are many resourses on the internet, to figure out drywalling… Let me tell you that a garage with bare 2×4′s is not in the least inviting so lets get first things first here. Then we can talk storage.
Once your drywal is hung and sanded nicely then you can apply the finish that you like. If you are in orange county california I know a great painter that does simple to complex finishes. He will even do the dry wall too. But the bottom line here is whether you pull into your garage with your car or you use the garage for a place to hang out with friends the interior is definately a place you want to make nicer… Just picture it…
A pool table can be a great addition to your garage space all you have to do is make sure you have enough room for makeing those fancy jump shots, you do not want to be banging your pool stick on the center post and you want plenty of clearence for walking around the table.
Tip: If your a drinker you can even make your garage like a bar scean…lol above the pool table you could have the TV on a swivle stand and you could have the bar in the back, set up some nice tables and stools and next thing you know its a party.
